given hands
grown
with sunspots and root knuckles
that ache
tearing down bent perceptions
pulled through nostalgia’s lens
picking dried paint from under nails
remembering layer upon layer of color
echos of eras
gone meaningless
buried under the house
buried under the epidermis
of the house
fighting water
thirsty and losing
the green swarming in
sage, emerald, forrest
hands gripping vines dripping languidly
from steel beams
rusted to look like wood
running around the silent city
crying out in anguish
and joy
